Cabrera had been upset at the Yankees last series, and was angry that his teammates didn’t retaliate after Mikie Mahtook was hit. Fulmer then hit Jacoby Ellsbury.

Romine and Cabrera were both ejected. Romine cursed at the umpiring crew and left the field in a rage.

The on-field antics continued in the seventh inning, when Yankees reliever Dellin Betances was ejected after hitting Tigers catcher James McCann in the helmet with a 98 mph fastball.
