Yankees reach out to Mariners to check on the availability of lefty James Paxton

Paxton went 11-6 with a 3.76 ERA in 28 starts for the Mariners in 2018 and struck out 208 in 160-1/3 innings. In an era in which starters rarely go deep into ballgames, Paxton led the American League in complete games, albeit with only two. Paxton also pitched at least seven innings 11 times last season and went into the eighth inning twice, a quality that no doubt makes him attractive to the Yankees, whose starters averaged just 5-1/3 innings in 2018.
