The correspondents' dinner we deserve: Trump was right about ditching comedians like Michelle Wolf. Welcome Ron Chernow.

The dinner is bad press for the press, with live coverage showing reporters hobnobbing with those they cover, in formal dress, painful footwear and sweaty ambition, eating rare prime rib, drinking expensive wine. It fawns over guests like lawyer Michael Avenatti, last year’s “it” guest simply because he represented the porn star suing Trump, the kind of attention that used to be reserved for celebrity guests in the dinner’s heyday like George Clooney, Larry David and the cast of “Downton Abbey.” The year Clooney came he was surprised when his car pulled up at the Hilton and not the White House. He’s not returned.
