Latina beauty Kayla Maisonet, currently on the Disney Channel’s “Stuck in the Middle,” shines at casting auditions because she is unique looking.
The 18-year-old also insists on never straightening her gorgeous curly hair. She recently wrote on her Instagram page, “Being authentic can mean so many things, but, personally It means to be who I truly am! Saying that, I always get so many comments about my hair, and how I should try something new, change it, Straighten it (If you know me that last one is pretty cringe worthy) And I continue to stay authentic with myself, and keep it just the way I like it.
It represents one side of who I am being Biracial, (I am half Puerto Rican) and I always choose to embrace my biggest trademark, instead of listening to others and conform to what people say I should do! Stay true to yourself, and be who are truly are.”
Half Puerto Rican and half Russian, Maisonet shared her inspirations, favorite foods — and summer must-haves — with VIVA.
VIVA: What do you love about being biracial?
KAYLA: I have two cultures to learn about and embrace. Which I love and think it’s so cool. I love being biracial because I think it makes me unique. I have this huge curly hair from my dad’s side, but some traits from my mother’s as well, and I find that interesting.
VIVA: What are you looking forward to most this summer?
KAYLA: Spending time with friends and family. Throughout the year it’s hard to make time for those who you really want to see when you have a busy week, and when summer comes around everyone’s schedule opens up!
The weather and activities definitely help as well making it more fun. Every summer we wind up doing a fun road trip, or trip where we fly somewhere. We’re currently deciding where we want to go this summer. Thinking tropical.
VIVA: What’s your current favorite grab n’go snack?
KAYLA: New Pop popcorn. We just served New Pop at my graduation party and it was a great way to add a healthy tasty snack.
VIVA: Favorite dessert?
KAYLA: Carrot cake! It’s my favorite! People think I’m weird for liking it because it’s not a typical flavor. But it’s the best. I love all the flavors better than boring red velvet or chocolate! But carrot cake must have cream cheese frosting or else it’s not the same.
VIVA: Favorite restaurant in New York City?
KAYLA: John’s pizza! I love their pizza, and I’ve been going there since I was little. We would always go for a huge dinner after being in the city all day around Christmas, and then see the tree. A family tradition for sure.
VIVA: What are your summer must-haves?
KAYLA: The mermaid float from BigMouth Inc. Just inflate the float and let the selfies begin; Tropical Paradise popsicles are the ultimate summer refreshment, and they come in cool flavors like icy island and island punch; Wild Thoughts Sunnies sunglasses in pink; and whenever possible, an ice cream cone beach towel.
