The 'American Horror Story: Cult' credits are terrifying

In this political circus, who will be the ringleader?

The “American Horror Story: Cult” opening credits have been released and they just may be the most frightening to date.

Like a previous teaser for the show, the sequence features bees congregating on hives and a number of weapon-wielding clowns. A few moments into the credits viewers are greeted by some familiar faces.

A shadowy figure is shown some distance from the camera. The mystery man pulls a Donald Trump mask over his face and turns toward the viewer.

Moments later, a second equally-frightening figure slips on the face of Trump’s real-life political adversary, Hillary Clinton.

Additional visuals, which may provide some clues about what to expect from Season 7, include military-grade weapons, bloodied body parts and flags.

Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Cheyenne Jackson and a handful of their “American Horror Story” costars are listed in the credits, though none of them are recognizable in the video.

The credits are the first visuals linked to the upcoming season to contain a nod to co-creator Ryan Murphy’s promise of political undertones.

Murphy released a teaser for the show in July, which was full of sinister clowns carrying mallets and other weapons while swaying in unison.

In addition to the trailer, the show’s co-creator tweeted a number of details about Season 7 of “American Horror Story,” including the theme and the names of Peters and Paulson’s characters.

The show returns to FX Sept. 5 at 10 p.m.
