It’s almost time for the annual concert with a cause, and this year’s Global Citizen Festival lineup has some heavy-hitting headliners.
Stevie Wonder, Green Day, The Killers and The Lumineers will all perform Sept. 23 on Central Park’s Grand Lawn.
The Chainsmokers will also perform at the concert, which grants free tickets to people through an “action-based” model. There will also be special guest sets from Pharrell Williams, Big Sean, Andra Day and Alessia Cara.
Wonder called it “an honor” to lend his music and words to Global Citizen, which aims to end global poverty by 2030 and has so far raised $ 30 billion through similar events across the world.
Nine Inch Nails, A Tribe Called Quest end Panorama on high note
“When we commit ourselves to life issues, we are showing love of the Most High,” Wonder said in a press release. “I was, I am and will always be, a citizen connected to the spirit of everyone on this planet moving forward. Let’s go!”
Those interested in snagging tickets can visit the Global Citizen site to join the movement. The “Action Journeys” for this year’s event are For Freedom, For Justice and For All. “Action Journey 1” requires interested attendees to help work toward maternal health, polio eradication, girl’s education and increased foreign aid.
There will be ticket draws throughout the summer.
The concert will also be broadcast live on MSNBC and MSNBC.com.
