Shania Twain reveals what inspired Brad Pitt song shout-out

Country superstar Shania Twain has revealed the surprising inspiration behind her Brad Pitt shout out in the hit 1997 track “That Don’t Impress Me Much”: his nudes.

Twain briefly mentions the “Inglourious Basterds” actor in the second verse of the song, brushing off her potential romantic interest’s vain tendencies with, ‘OK, so you’re Brad Pitt? That don’t impress me much.”

And though Pitt was a bona fide heartthrob at the time, his crown jewels just didn’t do it for Twain.

“You want to know the truth about this story? I’ve never told this before. I’m going to say it now,” she told Billboard.

Twain revealed that she and a friend were baking cookies together during her writing period for “Come on Over,” which would go on to be the second-best selling album of the Nielsen era.

The two were discussing nude photos of Pitt featured in the magazine Playgirl when Twain admitted that she didn’t quite understand the hype.

Pitt sued Playgirl, and won, for featuring nude images of him in 1997.

“This was like, all the rage,” she said of the photos. “I just thought, ‘I don’t know what all the fuss is about.’ I’m like, ‘Well, that don’t impress me much.’ I mean, what is all the fuss?”

Twain admits the dig wasn’t a knock directly at Pitt, but just at the world’s fascination with nudity.

Drake calls Shania Twain his ‘woman crush’

“We see people naked every day. That’s really what I thought,” she said. “I wasn’t picking on Brad Pitt. But that was just the association in that moment and things we make fusses about and whatever. Of course, it could have been any gorgeous guy.”

Pitt sued Playgirl in 1997 over the images, claiming they were illegally snapped by a trespassing papazzo while he was on vacation with then-girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow in the West Indies in 1995. He won, and all issues of the magazine were recalled.

Twain, 51, is currently gearing up to release her fifth studio album, the first since 2002’s “Up!”
