Ryan Lochte is officially diving into fatherhood.
The Olympic swimmer — who infamously fabricated a robbery story in Rio de Janeiro last summer — got some good news Thursday morning when his fiancée Kayla Rae Reed welcomed a baby boy, Us Weekly reported.
The baby, which is Lochte’s first child, is healthy and was born at 5:46 a.m.
It’s the latest chapter in an up-and-down 10-month stretch for Lochte, who was charged in Brazil with filing a false robbery report after he and three other swimmers claimed to be robbed at gunpoint at a local gas station.
Ryan Lochte says he was never suicidal after 2016 Rio incident
Brazilian police later determined they made up the story after drunkenly vandalizing the store’s bathroom, and Lochte has said he “over-exaggerated” the story. The 12-time medalist was subsequently suspended for 10 months by USA Swimming, as well as the U.S. Olympic Committee.
Lochte hasn’t been able to escape that saga since, and recently told TMZ that he never considered committing suicide after telling ESPN he was “about to hang up my entire life” after the incident.
“To be clear, yes I was in a very dark place after Rio, but I never thought about taking my own life,” he told TMZ.
Lochte and Reed, a model for Playboy, have been engaged since October. They announced her pregnancy last December, right before the holidays, with an Instagram post showing Lochte kissing his bride-to-be’s burgeoning baby bump.
