MTV abruptly cut off Julia Michaels’ performance of her megahit song “Issues” and went into a commercial break just over a minute after she began singing at Sunday’s Video Music Awards.
Naturally, the network drew considerable social media heat from Michael’s fans — and a few celebrities — after the broadcast cut away from her performance.
“Julia Michaels gets cut off while she’s singing and Lorde gets to NOT sing her whole song,” tweeted singer Adam Levine, referencing Lorde opting to only dance, and not sing, at the show as she battles the flu.

The Maroon 5 crooner’s wife, model Behati Prinsloo, also shared her disgust.
“Wow @vmas thanks for talking over then cutting to commercial half way through #juliamichaels performance,” she tweeted.
Less famous fans also weighed in.
“Julia michaels didn’t deserve this disrespect, she has been responsible for so many iconic songs and “issues” is an incredible song,” one Twitter user wrote.
