OKC police investigate ‘theft’ of Paul George from Pacers

Even the Oklahoma City Police Department is getting in on the fun.

Hours after the Thunder acquired All-Star Paul George in a shocking trade with the Pacers Friday night, the OKCPD tweeted out a sarcastic response to all the Indy residents claiming the deal was a heist.

“Thanks for the tweets reporting the ‘theft’ of Paul George by @okcthunder,” the department tweeted from its official account. “Our investigative findings: totally legal & very savvy.”

In return for the 6-9 George, the Pacers received second-year forward Domantas Sabonis and former No. 2 overall pick Victor Oladipo.

Paul George, Pacers star, traded to Thunder: report

It was a relatively small haul in exchange for a player of George’s caliber. Many were surprised the Pacers didn’t get back any draft picks. The Celtics were offering as many as three first-round picks and two starting players for George, according to the Boston Globe.

George has one year remaining on his contract and is set to become a free agent next summer when he declines his player option.

He’s been open about his desire to sign with the Lakers. His price was certainly cheaper because he’s only a one-season rental.
