Michael Phelps is taking the plunge back into fatherhood.
The 23-time Olympic gold medalist and his wife Nicole are expecting their second child, they announced Tuesday with matching Instagram posts.
“Number 2 on the way!!!! So excited!! Wonder if it’s a boy or a girl??” Phelps captioned the photo of Nicole holding up their son, Boomer.
The Olympic swimmer and Nicole, who reside in Phoenix, welcomed 1-year-old Boomer in May 2016 and got married a month later.

The proud parents also announced the baby news on a verified Instagram account for Boomer, writing, “So excited to see what mama is having!! Do I get to have a brother or a sister?!?”
Boomer accompanied his mother in Rio de Janeiro last summer to watch Phelps compete in the Summer Games.
Phelps, 32, is the most-decorated Olympic athlete of all-time, having won 28 medals overall in his career.
He recently made headlines for racing — and losing to — a CGI shark as part of Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” — an event that left many who were hoping to see Phelps race a real shark disappointed. Phelps had, however, warned in interviews leading up to the event that he was not facing off against a live shark.
