Marvel’s ‘New Warriors’ announces cast, including Squirrel Girl

Freeform made some nuts casting news Monday.

The network announced the leads for the upcoming “New Warriors,” Marvel’s first comedy series.

The show focuses on six young people “learning to cope with their abilities in a world where bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates,” as opposed to the typically adult superheroes.

“This Is Us” actress Milana Vayntrub will take on Doreen Green, known as Squirrel Girl.

“Baby Daddy” actor Derek Theler will co-star as Craig Hollis, a.k.a. Mister Immortal.

Jeremy Tardy (“Dear White People”) will play Night Thrasher, Calum Worthy (“Austen & Ally) will play Speedball, Matthew Moy (“2 Broke Girls”) will play Microbe and Kate Comer (“Hello My Name is Doris”) will play Debrii.

“I am thrilled beyond belief to be working with this incredible group of actors. They are funny, sincere, eager, charming and perfectly embody these characters. It’ll be a blast and an honor to create this show with each of them,” series executive producer and showrunner Kevin Biegel said in a statement.

The show joins a number of other Marvel shows on the air, including “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Daredevil,” “Luke Cage,” “Jessica Jones” and “Iron Fist.”

Upcoming series include “Defenders,” “The Punisher,” “Inhumans” and “Cloak & Dagger.”

“New Warriors” was ordered straight-to-series for a 10-episode run and will debut in 2018.
