A suspected poacher was mauled to death and eaten by a pack of lions in South Africa, leaving behind only his head and a few remains.
What was left of the victim was found close to Kruger National Park over the weekend, AFP reports.
The remains were found in a wooded area at a private game park near Hoedspruit, where animals have been increasingly poached in the last few years.
A hunting rifle was found near the body Saturday morning, police told the outlet. They are still trying to confirm the victim’s identity.

“It seems the victim was poaching in the game park when he was attacked and killed by lions. They ate his body, nearly all of it, and just left his head and some remains,” a police spokesperson told AFP
The lions are often poached for use in traditional medicine, in both Africa and other countries.
