Katy Perry deflects question about being JonBenét Ramsey at VMAs

The JonBenét Ramsey-Katy Perry connection continues, on live television.

At MTV’s VMAs Sunday night, Perry, who both hosted and performed, was asked about a conspiracy theory suggesting she’s actually JonBenet, the child beauty pageant queen killed in her Colorado home in 1996 at the age of 6.

In a pre-recorded video with “Billy on the Street” host Billy Eichner, Perry fields questions in a rapid-fire format.

The comedian asked Perry if she was actually JonBenet, which has been a visible theory on social media since about early 2016.

“Blink twice if you’re actually JonBenét Ramsey,” Eichner says.

“Um wait, no, that is not real,” Perry answers nervously.

The theory maintains that JonBenet was not killed and in fact took on the identity of the famous pop star, now 32.

The theory, of course, can hardly stand on its own legs, considering Perry would have been 12 when Ramsey died in 1996.

There is, obviously, a significant age gap.

Still, that doesn’t stop Twitter users from peddling the theory.

Some, however, found Eichner’s joke disrespectful — given the circumstance of a murdered child.

The reaction was mixed.
