Josh Duhamel had some kind things to say about his ex Fergie’s disastrous National Anthem performance.
Duhamel, who separated from his wife of eight years in September, told Ellen DeGeneres on Friday that Fergie is “crazy talented.”
“I think that she would probably admit that it was not her best work. But the girl’s crazy-talented, she really is. And she’s an amazing woman, an amazing human being,” he said after DeGeneres reminded him the 42-year-old singer has been “slammed and hammered” for the sultry rendition.
“It’s hard to see someone you care about get beat up like that. But that’s the business — you’re in this business, and you put yourself out there; sometimes you win, and sometimes you don’t,” Duhamel, 45, continued.
Fergie, whose real name is Stacy Ann Ferguson, was blasted on social media for bizarre take on the “Star-Spangled Banner” at the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday.
The actor said the Black Eyed Peas star wasn’t too fazed by the insults that came her way.
“Trust me, she’s fine,” he added. “She is about as resilient as they come.”
Fergie also spoke out about her performance, saying, “I love this country and honestly tried my best.”
“I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone,” she told E! News Monday.
Fergie and Duhamel share a 4-year-old son, Axl.
On Monday, the actor was spotted outside Fergie’s Los Angeles home carrying a bouquet of roses.
Duhamel’s full interview on “The Ellen Show” will air Friday at 2 p.m. in New York.
