John Cena has made a career of being a tough guy, but that won’t stop him from getting emotional over his broken engagement.
The 40-year-old WWE-turned-movie-star announced his split from fiancée Nikki Bella on Sunday, and has since taken to social media to wax poetic on his break-up.
“Hardship, loss, and humility are extremely difficult waters to navigate, but perseverance thru them builds a strength to withstand anything life throws your way,” he wrote on Twitter Monday.
Meanwhile, on Instagram, he kept it more succinct with a “Simpsons” meme that simply read, “Worst day ever!”
One day prior, he shared a Walt Whitman quote on the social media site that read, “We were together. I forget the rest.”

Cena and Bella, 34, had been engaged for one year and dating for six when they called it quits.
“While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another,” they said in a joint statement Sunday. “We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives.”
Sources told Us Weekly it was Bella who finally threw in the towel on the relationship in order to “focus on herself.”
“She’s in a place where she’s just exhausted by some of the things going on in the relationship. John is the love of her life (and) she adores him,” the sources said. “The things he’s been saying on television and in the press recently hurt Nikki. John is a mess…(but) she is not devastated.”
Cena had publicly stated he did not want to get married again after his 2012 divorce from Elizabeth Huberdeau, but popped the question to Bella last year at WrestleMania 33.
People reports that he’d managed to convince his fiancée he’d changed his ways, but that in the end, it wasn’t so.
“He’s an incredibly dedicated, driven, ambitious guy. And for the longest time he said he didn’t think he had room in his life for a spouse or kids. It seems like in the end that was still the truth,” a source told the outlet. “But in that case, he never should’ve proposed, let alone in front of millions of people… This was supposed to be the happiest time of her life. He ruined it and blew everything up.”
Cena and Bella were set to tie the knot May 5 in Mexico.
