This “fish” was out of water!

Jason Alexander, who doesn’t take over from Larry David in David’s play “Fish in the Dark” until next week, surprised the “Seinfeld” creator at the Cort Theatre Thursday night, showing up onstage as a doctor.

Judging by the applause, many members of the audience immediately recognized Alexander when he stepped out in his medical lab coat for his scene opposite David.

Alexander played the scene straight, though he did emphasize the word “pretty” to mimick David’s catchphrase, “Pretty, pretty good.”

Later in the scene, he accepts a tip from David’s character, a reference to an earlier joke about whether doctors should be given gratuities.

David’s play centers on the death a family patriarch and he created the role of nebishy son, Norman Drexel. Alexander takes over that role on June 9 — familiar turf for him. After all, George Costanza on “Seinfeld” was another David persona personified by Alexander.

The pair is slated to present an award together at the Tonys on Sunday. The hot-ticket comedy ends its run on July 18.
