Gary Sanchez sitting for second straight day in favor of Romine

CLEVELAND — While Joe Girardi wouldn’t describe it as a benching, Gary Sanchez was out of the lineup on Sunday with Austin Romine catching for the second straight game.

Girardi has delivered a verbal message to Sanchez that he needs to work on his blocking. The 24-year-old catcher leads MLB with 12 passed balls.

Girardi likes what Romine is giving the team behind the plate.

Sanchez caught a bullpen session from Sonny Gray on Sunday morning with Girardi looking on.

Girardi said he expects Sanchez behind the plate on Tuesday in Toronto.
