Floyd Mayweather may want to practice what he preaches.
One day after taking his loud-mouthed opponent Conor McGregor to task for his racist taunts, Mayweather unleashed a homophobic slur at the duo’s final press conference in London Friday.
“You punk, you f—-t, you ho,” Mayweather screamed. The brash Irish fighter flipped two birds in return.
The four-day spectacle of a press tour quickly devolved into a verbal slugfest for who could punch lower with their crude and insensitive remarks.
Mayweather vs. McGregor is 2017 version of ‘The Great White Hype’
During Thursday’s event at Barclays Center, McGregor responded to criticisms of his racist jabs – he twice said ‘dance for me, boy,’ to Mayweather – by telling the crowd he was “half black from the belly button down.” He proceeded to gyrate for the shocked onlookers in Brooklyn.
Mayweather told reporters afterwards that his opponent had crossed a line.
“He came out today and did it again,” said Mayweather – who served 90 days in jail for a domestic violence arrest in 2012. “I don’t care if it’s white women, black women, white men, black men, Asian, Latina or Latino, you don’t disrespect people. To get respect, you must give respect.”
Mayweather’s homophobic slur proved he clearly has a short memory.
The only silver lining to come from Friday’s London throwdown was that, finally and mercifully, this four-city press tour is over.
