Starring in “Ingrid Goes West,” a film about a web stalker, inspired Elizabeth Olsen to get involved with social media. “I decided to join Instagram,” she told us at the Neon premiere of “Ingrid Goes West” at Brooklyn’s Alamo Drafthouse. “I was ‘Taylor Sloane’ on Instagram.”
Being on Instagram hasn’t inspired Olsen to become an oversharing exhibitionist.
“I didn’t think I would bare all my soul because I was on social media — I understood how to use it as a platform because I actually decided to engage with it at all,” she said. “I’m not that person in an interview and I’ll never be that person in images.”
Olsen, the 28-year-old sister of 31-year-old twins Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, is following the lead of her elder siblings, who use social media to promote their fashion brands and little else.
Elizabeth Olsen reportedly dating indie singer Robbie Arnett
“They do it for The Row and they do it for Elizabeth and James,” she said, adding that’s very wise of them.
“I didn’t realize how smart it was before,” Olsen said. “And now I know!”
Olsen fans who haven’t started following yet may not want to wait much longer.
“It’s an interesting thing to play with,” she said. “Maybe I’ll end it tomorrow. We’ll see. I delete pictures constantly. I think it’s fun to delete pictures.”
Elizabeth Olsen dumped Boyd Holbrook on worst day
Whether a photo lives or dies on Olsen’s Instagram page is pretty random.
“I change my mind,” she said, walking us through the process. One thing that may get a photo deleted: “I did not like the way that looked.”
