David Hasselhoff confirmed Confidential’s report from earlier this week that his reps are in talks to seat him alongside Katy Perry as a judge on “American Idol.”
Perry doesn’t seem to like The Hoff’s odds of getting the gig, though.
“That was my manager calling because I, kind of like, do whatever is thrown up and one of them is, ‘Would you be a judge on American Idol?’,” Hasselhoff told Toofab.com. “I said, ‘Sure, throw me the ball.’”
But speaking on SiriusXM, Perry, the only judge so far confirmed to be on the next season of “Idol,” said, “I know there’s some people that are in play, and David’s not necessarily been one of them, God bless.”
ABC’s ‘American Idol’ is evidently a big mess
It’s unclear whether Perry thinks it’s The Hoff’s musical chops or lack of coaching experience that, at best, make him a dark horse in the “Idol” race.
“I think that it’s gotta be people that you respect in the music industry as far as people that you go, ‘Oh, yeah, they have something to contribute as far as constructive criticism,’ ” she explained.
ABC declined to comment when asked if Hasselhoff, who spent four seasons as a judge on “America’s Got Talent,” was in the running for the “American Idol” gig.
