Almost 25 years after the rumors began, Carla Bruni is still being forced to deny speculation of an affair with President Trump.
The supermodel and former First Lady of France was accused of being the cause of the then-real estate mogul’s split from second wife Marla Maples in 1991 and the allegations spread throughout his divorce.
Bruni denied the reports at the time, telling the Daily Mail that Trump was “obviously a lunatic” and that she’d only met him once before.
A quarter of a century later, she’s still being asked about the allegations.

“Actually, the whole situation was very vague and just did not exist,” Bruni, 49, told the Daily Beast while promoting her new album.
“So I was very surprised when he went to the press.”
Trump himself never went to the press — at least, not by name.
Instead, a publicist named John Miller called People magazine to confirm the details about the alleged affair. Except that publicist sounded exactly like the future President.

The recording, which surfaced last May, fuels long-standing speculation that Trump played his own spokesperson in the ’90s to make calls to tabloids and gossip magazines.
Linda Stasi, a gossip columnist for the Daily News, said last year that the real estate mogul would also leave messages as an “anonymous” tipster.
Maples also confirmed that her ex-husband was the one on the line to People.
