The singer revealed on Instagram that he got to meet the wrestler he was nicknamed after.
Mars, whose real name is Peter Gene Hernandez, was given his stage name by his father when he was a child. As a toddler, Mars reportedly resembled the wrestling legend, according to Billboard.
Tuesday night Mars got to meet the man after years of people calling him “Bruno,” when the musicians 24K Magic World tour rolled through Pittsburgh. The singer got to pose for a picture with Sammartino and even got to hold his championship belt.

Sammartino’s wrestling career spanned over nearly three decades. He held the World Wide Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Championship belt for over 11 years and many refer to him as “The Living Legend.”
Mars is trying to make his own legendary career in music. The performer is on the right track after all three of his studio albums have gone on to reach platinum status, being featured in several hit singles and getting to tour around the world.
