Almost 1,000 wild horses set to be rounded up in California, animal rights advocates fear some will be sold for slaughter

Pregnant mares and horses under 10 years old will be sent to a Bureau of Land Management facility for adoption, according to officials, but the remainders will be put up for sale to ranchers, horse trainers and even slaughterhouses. Those horses will be available for adoption for $ 125 or sale for $ 25 for the first 30 days; after that, prices drop to $ 1 per horse, up to 36 horses.
